EVELYN REED BURNETTE

Artist and Art Educator

I have been painting from the moment I could hold a brush. Growing up, I was always in awe of my mom's artistic abilities. Following in my mom's footsteps, I attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I received my masters in art education. As an art teacher, my goal is to empower all of my students with the confidence to understand that they can be artists.

Currently, my artwork is driven by the beauty created through layers. The transformation of my paintings from start to finish is such an exciting journey for me. Each time I step away and revisit a piece I find myself seeing color and light that I had not noticed before. My landscape work focuses on exploring the nature of the places I have visted.  I want my artwork to transport viewers to those specific moments and feel appreciation for the world around us. My abstract paintings are a result of the latter.  I find inspiration from the landscape color palettes to develop my abstract work.
